This gene encodes a protein that has sequence similarity to zeta crystallin, also known as quinone oxidoreductase. This zeta crystallin-like protein also contains an NAD(P)H binding site. The specific function of this protein is not known. Alternatively spliced variants that encode different protein isoforms have been identified but the full-length nature of only some of them is known. This gene also seems to contain a rare AT-AC splice-site.
