Gene:
RAD1 homolog (S. pombe)
Description:
The protein encoded by this gene is highly similar to the gene product of Schizosaccharomyces pombe rad1, a cell cycle checkpoint gene required for cell cycle arrest and DNA damage repair in response to DNA damage. This protein has been shown to associate with RAD9 and HUS1 proteins, and forms a cell cycle checkpoint complex. The complex can be recruited by checkpoint protein RAD17 to the sites of DNA damage, which is thought to be important for triggering the checkpoint-signaling cascade. Three alternatively spliced transcript variants, which encode two distinct proteins, have been reported.
