Gene:
methionine adenosyltransferase I, alpha
Description:
MAT1A encodes methionine adenosyltransferase I (alpha isoform). MATIA catalyzes the formation of S-adenosylmethionine from methionine and ATP. Both the beta and alpha isoforms may be encoded by MATIA. Methionine adenosyltransferase deficiency is known to be caused by recessive as well as dominant mutations, the latter identified in autosomal dominant persistant hypermethioninemia.
