Gene:
myotubularin related protein 3
Description:
The protein encoded by this gene is a dual-specificity protein phosphatase that can dephosphorylate proteins at serine, threonine, and tyrosine residues. This protein is structurally similar to myotubularin but in addition contains a FYVE domain, a double zinc finger motif which specifically binds phosphatidylinositol(3)-phosphate. The encoded protein has been observed to have a perinuclear, possibly membrane-bound, distribution in cells, but it has also been found free in the cytoplasm. Three transcript variants encoding three different isoforms have been found for this gene.
