Viewing Gene

Gene: interferon, alpha-inducible protein (clone IFI-6-16)
Gene ID: 204728
Symbol: G1P3
Species: 1000
Description: This gene is an interferon-stimulated gene (ISG). The type I- (alpha and beta) interferons induce transcription while type II- (gamma) interferon is a poor transcription inducer for this gene. A minisatellite repeat region, of varying lengths, has been found at the end of exon 2 and the beginning of intron 2. Alternative splicing occurs due to the use of alternative splice donor sites provided by the minisatellite sequence. Three alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described. The encoded product is a hydrophobic protein and thought to be present in the membrane. It is postulated to be a precursor protein but its signal peptide region has not been confirmed. The function of the encoded protein has not been determined.
