Description:
The protein encoded by this gene has sequence similarity to yeast longevity assurance gene-1 (Lag1). In yeast Lag1 is preferentially expressed in cells that have undergone a small number of cell divisions. Yeast lifespan can be increased or decreased by mutation or overexpression of this gene. The human protein may play a role in the regulation of cell growth. Alternative splicing occurs at this locus and three transcript variants encoding two distinct isoforms have been identified.
