Gene:
a disintegrin and metalloproteinase domain 21
Description:
This gene encodes disintegrin and metalloprotease (ADAM) domain 21, which is a member of the ADAM protein family. Members of this family are membrane-anchored proteins structurally related to snake venom disintegrins, and have been implicated in a variety of biologic processes involving cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions, including fertilization, muscle development, and neurogenesis. Like ADAM20, this gene lacks introns and its expression is testis-specific.
