Gene Name: carboxypeptidase N, polypeptide 1, 50kD
Symbol:
Description: Carboxypeptidase N (CPN)is a plasma metallo-protease that cleaves basic amino acid residues from the C terminal of peptides and proteins. The enzyme plays a central role in regulating the biologic activity of peptides such as kinins and anaphylatoxins, and is also known as kininase-1 and anaphylatoxin inactivator. CPN is a tetrameric complex with a molecular weight of 280-kDa consisting of two identical small enzymatically active (catalytic) subunits of 50-kDa (this record) and two large 83-kDa regulatory subunits. The gene that encodes the 50-kDa catalytic subunit has been mapped to chromosome 10 but its exact location is unknown.
