Description: The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the ADAM-TS/metallospondin family of proteins, which are structurally homologous to the ADAM proteins, but they also contain at least 1 C-terminal thrombospondin type 1 (TSP1) repeat, and are secreted, instead of being membrane bound. Members of the ADAM-TS family have been implicated in the cleavage of proteoglycans, the control of organ shape during development, and the inhibition of angiogenesis. This gene is localized to chromosome 3p14.3-p14.2, an area known to be lost in hereditary renal tumors. Three transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this locus.
