Changes in the relative abundance of MYH7 and MYH6 (the alpha, or fast, isoform of cardiac myosin heavy chain) correlate with the contractile velocity of cardiac muscle. Mutations in MYH7 are associated with familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
