Inserting the p53 gene into the tumor may increase the effectiveness of a chemotherapy drug by making tumor cells more sensitive to the drug. Combining chemotherapy with gene therapy may kill more tumor cells.\n\nPURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of combining chemotherapy with gene therapy in treating patients who have stage III or stage IV breast cancer.', 'detailedDescription': 'OBJECTIVES:\n\n* Determine the therapeutic efficacy of docetaxel, doxorubicin, and Ad5CMV-p53 gene in patients with locally advanced breast cancer.\n\nOUTLINE: Patients receive p53 gene by intralesional injection on days 1 and 2. Patients also receive doxorubicin IV over 15 minutes followed 1 hour later by docetaxel IV over 1 hour on day 1. Treatment repeats every 3 weeks for up to 6 courses. After completion of chemotherapy, patients with a reasonable response undergo surgical resection.\n\nPROJECTED ACCRUAL: A maximum of 60 patients will be accrued for this study.'}, 'eligibilityModule': {'sex': 'ALL', 'stdAges': ['ADULT', 'OLDER_ADULT'], 'minimumAge': '18 Years', 'healthyVolunteers': False, 'eligibilityCriteria': 'DISEASE CHARACTERISTICS:\n\n* Histologically confirmed breast cancer\n\n * Stage IIIA, IIIB (excluding inflammatory breast carcinoma), or IIIC OR\n * Localized stage IV\n* Measurable disease\n* No metastases\n* Hormone receptor status:\n\n * Not specified\n\nPATIENT CHARACTERISTICS:\n\nAge\n\n* 18 and over\n\nSex\n\n* Male or female\n\nMenopausal status\n\n* Not specified\n\nPerformance status\n\n* Karnofsky 70-100%\n\nLife expectancy\n\n* Not specified\n\nHematopoietic\n\n* Adequate bone marrow function\n\nHepatic\n\n* Adequate liver function\n* Hepatitis B surface antigen negative\n* Hepatitis C antibody negative\n\nRenal\n\n* Adequate kidney function\n\nCardiovascular\n\n* Normal cardiac function by MUGA and/or echocardiogram\n\nOther\n\n* No psychological, familial, sociological, or geographical conditions that would preclude study\n* Not pregnant or nursing\n* Fertile patients must use effective barrier method of contraception\n\nPRIOR CONCURRENT THERAPY:\n\nBiologic therapy\n\n* No prior gene therapy using adenoviral vectors or p53 gene product\n\nChemotherapy\n\n* No prior chemotherapy for breast cancer\n\nEndocrine therapy\n\n* Not specified\n\nRadiotherapy\n\n* Not specified\n\nSurgery\n\n* Not specified'}, 'identificationModule': {'nctId': 'NCT00044993', 'briefTitle': 'Chemotherapy Combined With Gene Therapy in Treating Patients Who Have Stage III or Stage IV Breast Cancer', 'organization': {'class': 'NIH', 'fullName': 'National Cancer Institute (NCI)'}, 'officialTitle': 'Phase II, Single Arm, Single Institution Clinical Trial of Docetaxel and Doxorubicin in Combination With Local Administration of INGN 201 (Ad5CMV-p53) in Locally Advanced Breast Cancer (LABC)', 'orgStudyIdInfo': {'id': 'INTROGEN-201-010'}, 'secondaryIdInfos': [{'id': 'CDR0000256223', 'type': 'REGISTRY', 'domain': 'PDQ (Physician Data Query)'}, {'id': 'MDA-ID-00008'}]}, 'armsInterventionsModule': {'interventions': [{'name': 'Ad5CMV-p53 gene', 'type': 'BIOLOGICAL'}, {'name': 'docetaxel', 'type': 'DRUG'}, {'name': 'doxorubicin hydrochloride', 'type': 'DRUG'}, {'name': 'conventional surgery', 'type': 'PROCEDURE'}, {'name': 'neoadjuvant therapy', 'type': 'PROCEDURE'}]}, 'contactsLocationsModule': {'locations': [{'zip': '77030-4009', 'city': 'Houston', 'state': 'Texas', 'country': 'United States', 'facility': 'University of Texas - MD Anderson Cancer Center', 'geoPoint': {'lat': 29.76328, 'lon': -95.36327}}], 'overallOfficials': [{'name': 'Jill Van Warthood, PhD', 'role': 'STUDY_CHAIR', 'affiliation': 'Introgen Therapeutics'}]}, 'sponsorCollaboratorsModule': {'leadSponsor': {'name': 'Introgen Therapeutics', 'class': 'INDUSTRY'}}}}
