The underlying pathophysiology of this complication is unclear, however neuroinflammation and oxidative stress secondary to surgery had shown to be the cause of postoperative cognitive dysfunction and delirium. Erythropoietin represents non-erythropoietic effects of anti-inflammatory properties.
