A higher migration rate of several antibiotics (including vancomycin) to exudate has been reported in patients with skin ulcers, skin defects, burns, and traumatic wounds treated with NPWT compared to patients without NPWT.\n\nIn the present study, the investigators will evaluate the pharmacokinetic profile and wound penetration of vancomycin in open-heart surgery patients with post-sternotomy deep sternal wound infection receiving NPWT.', 'detailedDescription': 'For this prospective observational study, consecutive patients treated with NPWT for post-sternotomy deep sternal wound infection (DSWI) will be enrolled. On the first day of the study, serum and exudate samples will be synchronously collected at 0 (pre-dose), 0.5, 1, 2, 3, and 6 hours after vancomycin administration. On the following three consecutive days, additional samples will be collected, only before vancomycin administration.\n\nThe ratio of average vancomycin concentration in wound exudate to serum will be observed for free (unbound) and for total (bound + unbound) concentration. The percentage of free vancomycin in wound exudate and in serum will be observed. The level of vancomycin wound penetration will be observed for three days. The total hospital stay in patients with DSWI versus those without DSWI will be recorded, together with the in-hospital or 90-day mortality, together with late DSWI recurrence. All-cause mortality will be analyzed during a median follow-up of 2.5 years.'}, 'eligibilityModule': {'sex': 'ALL', 'stdAges': ['ADULT', 'OLDER_ADULT'], 'minimumAge': '18 Years', 'samplingMethod': 'NON_PROBABILITY_SAMPLE', 'studyPopulation': 'Patients with deep sternal wound infection after open-heart surgery', 'eligibilityCriteria': 'Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* age ≥ 18 years\n* clinical and laboratory signs of significant infection\n* indication for NPWT with concomitant antibiotic therapy\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n\\- none'}, 'identificationModule': {'nctId': 'NCT06506032', 'briefTitle': 'Vancomycin and Negative Pressure Therapy for Post-sternotomy Deep Sternal Wound Infection', 'organization': {'class': 'OTHER', 'fullName': 'University Hospital Ostrava'}, 'officialTitle': 'Clinical Effect and Wound Penetration of Vancomycin in Open-heart Surgery Patients Receiving Negative Pressure Wound Therapy for Deep Sternal Wound Infection', 'orgStudyIdInfo': {'id': 'KCH-24-DSWI-vanko'}, 'secondaryIdInfos': [{'id': '06/RVO-FNOs/2021', 'type': 'OTHER_GRANT', 'domain': 'University Hospital Ostrava'}]}, 'armsInterventionsModule': {'armGroups': [{'label': 'Patients treated with NPWT with DSWI', 'description': 'Patients with deep sternal wound infection were enrolled in this study group.', 'interventionNames': ['Drug: Intravenous Vancomycin administration']}, {'label': 'Patients without DSWI after cardiac surgery', 'description': 'Patients without deep sternal wound infection after cardiac surgery were enrolled in this study group.', 'interventionNames': ['Other: Standard postoperative therapy']}], 'interventions': [{'name': 'Intravenous Vancomycin administration', 'type': 'DRUG', 'description': 'Vancomycin was administered to the patients at the discretion of the physician', 'armGroupLabels': ['Patients treated with NPWT with DSWI']}, {'name': 'Standard postoperative therapy', 'type': 'OTHER', 'description': 'The patients received standard postoperative therapy', 'armGroupLabels': ['Patients without DSWI after cardiac surgery']}]}, 'contactsLocationsModule': {'locations': [{'zip': '703 00', 'city': 'Ostrava', 'state': 'Moravian-Silesian Region', 'country': 'Czechia', 'facility': 'University of Ostrava', 'geoPoint': {'lat': 49.83465, 'lon': 18.28204}}, {'zip': '708 00', 'city': 'Ostrava', 'state': 'Moravian-Silesian Region', 'country': 'Czechia', 'facility': 'Technical University of Ostrava', 'geoPoint': {'lat': 49.83465, 'lon': 18.28204}}, {'zip': '708 52', 'city': 'Ostrava', 'state': 'Moravian-Silesian Region', 'country': 'Czechia', 'facility': 'University Hospital Ostrava', 'geoPoint': {'lat': 49.83465, 'lon': 18.28204}}, {'zip': '625 00', 'city': 'Brno', 'state': 'South Moravian', 'country': 'Czechia', 'facility': 'Masaryk University', 'geoPoint': {'lat': 49.19522, 'lon': 16.60796}}, {'zip': '656 63', 'city': 'Brno', 'state': 'South Moravian', 'country': 'Czechia', 'facility': 'Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute', 'geoPoint': {'lat': 49.19522, 'lon': 16.60796}}], 'overallOfficials': [{'name': 'Martin Kolek, MD,PhD', 'role': 'PRINCIPAL_INVESTIGATOR', 'affiliation': 'University Hospital Ostrava'}]}, 'ipdSharingStatementModule': {'ipdSharing': 'NO', 'description': 'There is no plan to make individual participant data available to other researchers.'}, 'sponsorCollaboratorsModule': {'leadSponsor': {'name': 'University Hospital Ostrava', 'class': 'OTHER'}, 'collaborators': [{'name': 'University of Ostrava', 'class': 'OTHER'}, {'name': 'Masaryk University', 'class': 'OTHER'}, {'name': 'Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute', 'class': 'OTHER'}, {'name': 'Technical University of Ostrava', 'class': 'UNKNOWN'}], 'responsibleParty': {'type': 'SPONSOR'}}}}
