The researchers in this study want to increase awareness of PPA, educate others about this unique disorder, and to encourage more research to eventually develop therapies.\n\nDuring the three-day research program, participants will be asked to undergo neuropsychological testing (paper and pencil tests that evaluate cognition), advanced imaging (MRI and PET), cognitive experiments, and other computer and language testing batteries. Participants may be asked to return every two years to complete the same measures.\n\nFor participants not living near Chicago, IL, flights and accommodations (for both the person with PPA and their companion) will be covered by the study.'}, 'eligibilityModule': {'sex': 'ALL', 'stdAges': ['CHILD', 'ADULT', 'OLDER_ADULT'], 'samplingMethod': 'NON_PROBABILITY_SAMPLE', 'studyPopulation': "Participants with PPA will be recruited from the Northwestern University Alzheimer's Disease Center Core registry, the Northwestern University Neurobehavior and Memory Clinic, and from those who contact the center that are interested in PPA research.", 'healthyVolunteers': False, 'eligibilityCriteria': 'Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Diagnosis of primary progressive aphasia\n* Right-handed\n* Native English speaker\n* Visual acuity of 20/30 corrected\n* Adequate hearing to follow conversation\n* Safe for an MRI scan\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Left-handedness\n* Claustrophobia\n* Presence of significant medical illness that initially or in the future could interfere with continued participation in the study'}, 'identificationModule': {'nctId': 'NCT00537004', 'briefTitle': 'Language in Primary Progressive Aphasia', 'organization': {'class': 'OTHER', 'fullName': 'Northwestern University'}, 'officialTitle': 'Asymmetric Neurodegeneration and Language in Primary Progressive Aphasia', 'orgStudyIdInfo': {'id': 'IA0125'}, 'secondaryIdInfos': [{'id': 'R01AG077444', 'link': 'https://reporter.nih.gov/quickSearch/R01AG077444', 'type': 'NIH'}]}, 'armsInterventionsModule': {'armGroups': [{'label': 'PPA (Primary Progressive Aphasia)', 'description': 'Individuals with primary progressive aphasia'}, {'label': 'Control', 'description': 'Individuals with no diagnosis of any type of dementia'}]}, 'contactsLocationsModule': {'locations': [{'zip': '60611', 'city': 'Chicago', 'state': 'Illinois', 'status': 'RECRUITING', 'country': 'United States', 'contacts': [{'name': 'Seyi Adeolu', 'role': 'CONTACT', 'email': 'PPA.Research@northwestern.edu', 'phone': '312-503-2398'}, {'name': 'M.-Marsel Mesulam, MD', 'role': 'PRINCIPAL_INVESTIGATOR'}], 'facility': 'Northwestern University', 'geoPoint': {'lat': 41.85003, 'lon': -87.65005}}], 'centralContacts': [{'name': 'Elizabeth A Haynes', 'role': 'CONTACT', 'email': 'PPA.Research@northwestern.edu', 'phone': '312-503-2398'}], 'overallOfficials': [{'name': 'Marsel Mesulam, MD', 'role': 'PRINCIPAL_INVESTIGATOR', 'affiliation': 'Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine'}]}, 'sponsorCollaboratorsModule': {'leadSponsor': {'name': 'Northwestern University', 'class': 'OTHER'}, 'collaborators': [{'name': 'National Institute on Aging (NIA)', 'class': 'NIH'}], 'responsibleParty': {'type': 'PRINCIPAL_INVESTIGATOR', 'investigatorTitle': "Director, Mesulam Center for Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer's Disease", 'investigatorFullName': 'Marsel Mesulam', 'investigatorAffiliation': 'Northwestern University'}}}}
