Concurrent with the obesity epidemic, numerous studies have reported a parallel epidemic of chronic sleep deprivation. Sleep is important in maintaining energy balance (i.e. acute sleep deprivation impact the normal secretion of ghrelin and decreases leptin plasma levels).
