Impaired bone development during this period likely predisposes to an increased fracture risk across the lifespan.\n\nThe investigators will compare baseline, 12 month and 24 month changes in High-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography/micro-finite element analysis (HR-pQCT/μFEA)-based estimates of bone strength and bone turnover by biochemical measurements in 40 T1D children at the onset of peak bone mineral accretion (n=40) versus sex and puberty-matched healthy controls (n=40). The investigators will determine relationships between changes in bone strength (including trabecular and cortical components) and measures of glycemic control and variability by continuous glucose monitoring (CGM).'}, 'eligibilityModule': {'sex': 'ALL', 'stdAges': ['CHILD'], 'maximumAge': '14 Years', 'minimumAge': '8 Years', 'samplingMethod': 'PROBABILITY_SAMPLE', 'studyPopulation': '40 children and adolescents between the age of 8 to 14 years with type 1 diabetes and 40 children and adolescents between the age of 8 to 14 years without type 1 diabetes.', 'healthyVolunteers': True, 'eligibilityCriteria': "Inclusion Criteria (T1D and Controls):\n\n\\- Children within 2 years preceding the onset of the pubertal growth spurt\n\nInclusion Criteria (T1D participants):\n\n\\- documentation of β-cell autoimmunity and need for insulin replacement\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR)\\< 60 ml/mim\n* 25(OH)D level \\< 20 ng/ml.\n* Celiac disease\n* Autoimmune thyroid disease\n* Addison's disease\n* History of pathological fractures\n\n \\-- Disorders associated with altered skeletal structure or function\n* Bone active drugs in past year\n* Diabetes of other or unclear etiology"}, 'identificationModule': {'nctId': 'NCT04289727', 'briefTitle': 'Skeletal Fragility in Type 1 Diabetes: Glycemic Control and Bone Strength', 'organization': {'class': 'OTHER', 'fullName': 'Columbia University'}, 'officialTitle': 'Skeletal Fragility in Type 1 Diabetes: Glycemic Control and Bone Strength', 'orgStudyIdInfo': {'id': 'AAAS5630'}, 'secondaryIdInfos': [{'id': 'R01DK122564', 'link': 'https://reporter.nih.gov/quickSearch/R01DK122564', 'type': 'NIH'}]}, 'armsInterventionsModule': {'armGroups': [{'label': 'Group 1', 'description': 'Those with Type 1 Diabetes.'}, {'label': 'Group 2', 'description': 'Those without Type 1 Diabetes.'}]}, 'contactsLocationsModule': {'locations': [{'zip': '10032', 'city': 'New York', 'state': 'New York', 'status': 'RECRUITING', 'country': 'United States', 'contacts': [{'name': 'Mishaela Rubin, MD', 'role': 'CONTACT', 'email': 'mrr6@columbia.edu', 'phone': '212-305-2663'}, {'name': 'Mishaela Rubin, MD', 'role': 'PRINCIPAL_INVESTIGATOR'}], 'facility': 'Columbia University Medical Center-Harkness Pavillion', 'geoPoint': {'lat': 40.71427, 'lon': -74.00597}}], 'overallOfficials': [{'name': 'Mishaela Rubin, MD', 'role': 'PRINCIPAL_INVESTIGATOR', 'affiliation': 'Columbia University'}]}, 'sponsorCollaboratorsModule': {'leadSponsor': {'name': 'Columbia University', 'class': 'OTHER'}, 'collaborators': [{'name': 'National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK)', 'class': 'NIH'}], 'responsibleParty': {'type': 'SPONSOR'}}}}
