The exact technique can vary, but we will discuss one method using the triceps as an example. For the triceps skinfold, grab the skin 2 cm above the midpoint of the right upper arm with the thumb and index finger to create a skinfold. Then, place the calipers at the midpoint to obtain the measurement. Similarly, at other sites, the skinfold measurement is obtained by grabbing the skin 2 cm away from the measuring site. Growth impairment in children with chronic diseases is associated with disruption of the growth hormone (GH) and predominantly results from undernutrition, chronic inflammation and prolonged corticosteroid treatment.\n\nUndernutrition leads to major adaptations in the endocrine system towards conserving energy, diverting substrates away from growth and reproduction, and providing alternative sources of energy for critical body homeostasis. chronic inflammatory processes exacerbate undernutrition through proinflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-1\\&6 and tumor necrosis factor. These growth-regulating mechanisms are disturbed further by corticosteroids used in some chronic conditions for their anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties.\n\nGrowth impairment occurs with many chronic conditions e g: Congenital heart dieases (CHD), chronic pulmonary diseases such as bronchial asthma, Gastrointestinal diseases sch as inflammatory bowel disease ,Chronic liver diseases , Chronic renal diseases, Chronic hemolytic anemia and chronic Central nervous system diseases.'}, 'eligibilityModule': {'sex': 'ALL', 'stdAges': ['CHILD'], 'maximumAge': '12 Years', 'samplingMethod': 'NON_PROBABILITY_SAMPLE', 'studyPopulation': 'All children with chronic diseases affecting their growth parameters \\& body mass index.', 'healthyVolunteers': True, 'eligibilityCriteria': 'Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Age: under 12 years old.\n* Both sex .\n* Patients with chronic medical diseases.\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Age: over 12years old.\n* Patients with acute diseases.\n* Pediatric with malignancy.\n* chronic patients with surgical sequelae.'}, 'identificationModule': {'nctId': 'NCT05801718', 'briefTitle': 'Growth Parameters & Body Mass Index in Children With Chronic Diseases', 'organization': {'class': 'OTHER', 'fullName': 'Sohag University'}, 'officialTitle': 'Growth Parameters & Body Mass Index in Children With Chronic Diseases', 'orgStudyIdInfo': {'id': 'Soh-Med-23-03-09MS'}}, 'armsInterventionsModule': {'armGroups': [{'label': 'chronic cardiac patients', 'description': 'patients with chronic cardiac diseases affecting their groth parameters \\& body mass index', 'interventionNames': ['Diagnostic Test: Growth parameters & body mass index']}, {'label': 'chronic renal patients', 'description': 'patients with chronic renal diseases affecting their growth parameters \\& body mass index', 'interventionNames': ['Diagnostic Test: Growth parameters & body mass index']}, {'label': 'chronic respiratory diseases', 'description': 'patients with chronic respiratory diseases affecting their growth parameters \\& body mass index', 'interventionNames': ['Diagnostic Test: Growth parameters & body mass index']}, {'label': 'chronic metabolic diseases', 'description': 'patients with chronic metabolic diseases affecting their growth parameters \\& body mass index', 'interventionNames': ['Diagnostic Test: Growth parameters & body mass index']}, {'label': 'chronic neurological diseases', 'description': 'patients with chronic neurological diseases affecting their growth parameters \\& body mass index', 'interventionNames': ['Diagnostic Test: Growth parameters & body mass index']}, {'label': 'chronic haematological diseases', 'description': 'patients with chronic haematological diseases affecting their growth parameters \\& body mass index', 'interventionNames': ['Diagnostic Test: Growth parameters & body mass index']}, {'label': 'chronic gastro-intestinal diseases', 'description': 'patients with chronic gastro-intestinal diseases affecting their growth parameters \\& body mass index', 'interventionNames': ['Diagnostic Test: Growth parameters & body mass index']}], 'interventions': [{'name': 'Growth parameters & body mass index', 'type': 'DIAGNOSTIC_TEST', 'description': 'measuring the anthropometric measurements including: Weight, height/ length, head circumference, mid arm circumference\\& skin fold thickness and measuring body mass index.', 'armGroupLabels': ['chronic cardiac patients', 'chronic gastro-intestinal diseases', 'chronic haematological diseases', 'chronic metabolic diseases', 'chronic neurological diseases', 'chronic renal patients', 'chronic respiratory diseases']}]}, 'contactsLocationsModule': {'locations': [{'city': 'Sohag', 'country': 'Egypt', 'contacts': [{'name': 'magdy m ameen, professor', 'role': 'CONTACT'}], 'facility': 'Sohag University Hospital', 'geoPoint': {'lat': 26.55695, 'lon': 31.69478}}], 'centralContacts': [{'name': 'norhan n ahmed, resident', 'role': 'CONTACT', 'email': 'norhannabil@med.sohag.edu.eg', 'phone': '01021556144'}, {'name': 'mohamed a mohamed, professor', 'role': 'CONTACT'}]}, 'ipdSharingStatementModule': {'ipdSharing': 'UNDECIDED'}, 'sponsorCollaboratorsModule': {'leadSponsor': {'name': 'Sohag University', 'class': 'OTHER'}, 'responsibleParty': {'type': 'PRINCIPAL_INVESTIGATOR', 'investigatorTitle': 'resident at pediatric department at Sohag university hospital', 'investigatorFullName': 'Norhan Nabil Ahmed', 'investigatorAffiliation': 'Sohag University'}}}, 'annotationSection': {'annotationModule': {'unpostedAnnotation': {'unpostedEvents': [{'date': '2024-09-10', 'type': 'RELEASE'}, {'date': '2024-11-14', 'type': 'RESET'}], 'unpostedResponsibleParty': 'Norhan Nabil Ahmed, resident at pediatric department at Sohag university hospital, Sohag University'}}}}
