Fluid and tissue obtained are examined for tumor markers by immunohistochemistry. Candidate genes are analyzed by gene methylation, gene expression arrays, and proteomic profiling.\n\nPatients are followed at 24 hours and at 1 week.\n\nPROJECTED ACCRUAL: A total of 100 patients will be accrued for this study within 1 year.'}, 'eligibilityModule': {'sex': 'FEMALE', 'stdAges': ['ADULT', 'OLDER_ADULT'], 'minimumAge': '18 Years', 'healthyVolunteers': False, 'eligibilityCriteria': 'DISEASE CHARACTERISTICS:\n\n* Diagnosis of breast cancer\n* No metastatic disease\n* No inflammatory breast cancer\n* Hormone receptor status:\n\n * Not specified\n\nPATIENT CHARACTERISTICS:\n\nAge\n\n* 18 and over\n\nSex\n\n* Female\n\nMenopausal status\n\n* Not specified\n\nPerformance status\n\n* Not specified\n\nLife expectancy\n\n* Not specified\n\nHematopoietic\n\n* Not specified\n\nHepatic\n\n* Not specified\n\nRenal\n\n* Not specified\n\nOther\n\n* No active infection or inflammation in the breast under study\n* No known allergy to eutectic mixture of local anesthetics (EMLA®) cream or lidocaine\n* No severe illness\n* Not unconscious\n* No mental illness or handicap\n* No nursing within the past 12 months\n* Not pregnant\n\nPRIOR CONCURRENT THERAPY:\n\nBiologic therapy\n\n* Not specified\n\nChemotherapy\n\n* Not specified\n\nEndocrine therapy\n\n* Not specified\n\nRadiotherapy\n\n* Not specified\n\nSurgery\n\n* No prior breast implantation on side of proposed lavage\n* No prior subareolar (e.g., papilloma resections, biopsies, or fine needle aspirations) or other surgery that may disrupt the ductal systems within 2 cm of the nipple\n\n * Biopsies and fine-needle aspirations \\> 2 cm from the nipple are allowed'}, 'identificationModule': {'nctId': 'NCT00083018', 'briefTitle': 'Nipple Aspiration, Ductal Lavage, and Duct Endoscopy For Diagnostic Assessment in Women Undergoing Surgery for Breast Cancer', 'organization': {'class': 'NIH', 'fullName': 'National Cancer Institute (NCI)'}, 'officialTitle': 'Evaluation Of The Role Of Nipple Aspiration, Ductal Lavage And Duct Endoscopy At The Time Of Surgery In Patients With Breast Cancer', 'orgStudyIdInfo': {'id': 'CDR0000361760'}, 'secondaryIdInfos': [{'id': 'RMNHS-2283'}, {'id': 'EU-20353'}]}, 'armsInterventionsModule': {'interventions': [{'name': 'cytogenetic analysis', 'type': 'GENETIC'}, {'name': 'proteomic profiling', 'type': 'GENETIC'}, {'name': 'cytology specimen collection procedure', 'type': 'OTHER'}, {'name': 'immunohistochemistry staining method', 'type': 'OTHER'}, {'name': 'laboratory biomarker analysis', 'type': 'OTHER'}, {'name': 'breast duct lavage', 'type': 'PROCEDURE'}]}, 'contactsLocationsModule': {'locations': [{'zip': 'SW3 6JJ', 'city': 'London', 'state': 'England', 'status': 'RECRUITING', 'country': 'United Kingdom', 'contacts': [{'name': 'Gerald Gui, MD, MS, FRCS(Edin), FRCS(Eng)', 'role': 'CONTACT', 'email': 'gerald.gui@rmh.nhs.uk', 'phone': '44-20-7808-2783'}], 'facility': 'Royal Marsden - London', 'geoPoint': {'lat': 51.50853, 'lon': -0.12574}}], 'overallOfficials': [{'name': 'Gerald Gui, MD, MS, FRCS(Edin), FRCS(Eng)', 'role': 'STUDY_CHAIR', 'affiliation': 'Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust'}]}, 'sponsorCollaboratorsModule': {'leadSponsor': {'name': 'Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust', 'class': 'OTHER'}}}}
