Combining more than one drug may kill more tumor cells.\n\nPURPOSE: Phase I/II trial to study the effectiveness of combination chemotherapy consisting of paclitaxel, cisplatin, and ifosfamide in treating patients who have ovarian or testicular germ cell tumors that are refractory to platinum-containing chemotherapy.', 'detailedDescription': 'OBJECTIVES:\n\n* Determine the toxicity and optimal dose of paclitaxel when combined with cisplatin and ifosfamide in patients with germ cell tumors with favorable prognostic features and resistance to cisplatin.\n* Determine the efficacy of this regimen as salvage therapy in these patients.\n\nOUTLINE: This is a dose escalation study of paclitaxel.\n\nPatients receive paclitaxel IV continuously on day 1 and cisplatin IV over 20 minutes and ifosfamide IV over 30 minutes on days 2-6. Filgrastim (G-CSF) is administered subcutaneously (SC) on days 7-18 or until blood counts recover. Treatment continues every 3 weeks for 4 courses in the absence of disease progression or unacceptable toxicity.\n\nCohorts of 3-6 patients receive escalating doses of paclitaxel until the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) is determined. The MTD is defined as the dose preceding that at which 3 of 6 patients experience dose-limiting toxicity. Additional patients receive paclitaxel at the MTD.\n\nAfter completion of chemotherapy, some patients may undergo resection of residual masses.\n\nPROJECTED ACCRUAL: A total of 18-43 patients will be accrued for this study within 2 years.'}, 'eligibilityModule': {'sex': 'ALL', 'stdAges': ['CHILD', 'ADULT', 'OLDER_ADULT'], 'minimumAge': '15 Years', 'healthyVolunteers': False, 'eligibilityCriteria': 'DISEASE CHARACTERISTICS:\n\n* Histologically proven germ cell tumor that is resistant to a platinum-based chemotherapy regimen\n* Active disease meeting 1 of the following conditions:\n\n * Measurable or evaluable disease\n * Elevated serum tumor markers (alpha-fetoprotein or human chorionic gonadotropin)\n * Unresectable residual disease after postchemotherapy surgery\n* Favorable prognostic factors for achieving a complete response (CR) to cisplatin-based salvage therapy required, including all of the following:\n\n * No more than 1 prior regimen or 6 prior courses of cisplatin\n * Testis or ovarian germ cell primary site\n * Prior CR to cisplatin therapy\n * Incomplete response to first-line therapy that was based on either carboplatin or a suboptimal regimen of cisplatin\n\nPATIENT CHARACTERISTICS:\n\nAge:\n\n* 15 and over\n\nPerformance status:\n\n* Not specified\n\nLife expectancy:\n\n* Not specified\n\nHematopoietic:\n\n* WBC at least 3,000/mm\\^3\n* Platelet count at least 100,000/mm\\^3\n* Hemoglobin at least 8.0 g/dL\n\nHepatic:\n\n* Not specified\n\nRenal:\n\n* Creatinine clearance greater than 50 mL/min\n* Renal dysfunction due to ureteral obstruction by tumor allowed at the discretion of the principal investigator\n\nCardiovascular:\n\n* If history of significant cardiac disease, evaluation and clearance by a cardiologist required prior to entry\n\nOther:\n\n* No active infection not well controlled on antibiotics\n\nPRIOR CONCURRENT THERAPY:\n\nBiologic therapy:\n\n* Not specified\n\nChemotherapy:\n\n* See Disease Characteristics\n* No prior paclitaxel or ifosfamide\n* At least 3 weeks since prior chemotherapy\n* No other concurrent chemotherapy\n\nEndocrine therapy:\n\n* Not specified\n\nRadiotherapy:\n\n* Not specified\n\nSurgery:\n\n* See Disease Characteristics\n* Recovered from recent surgery'}, 'identificationModule': {'nctId': 'NCT00002559', 'briefTitle': 'Combination Chemotherapy in Treating Patients With Germ Cell Tumors That Have Not Responded to Previous Cisplatin', 'organization': {'class': 'OTHER', 'fullName': 'Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center'}, 'officialTitle': 'PHASE I/II TRIAL OF TAXOL, IFOSFAMIDE, AND CISPLATIN FOR CISPLATIN-RESISTANT GERM CELL TUMOR PATIENTS WITH FAVORABLE PROGNOSTIC FEATURES', 'orgStudyIdInfo': {'id': '94-012'}, 'secondaryIdInfos': [{'id': 'CDR0000063452', 'type': 'REGISTRY', 'domain': 'PDQ (Physician Data Query)'}, {'id': 'NCI-V94-0408'}]}, 'armsInterventionsModule': {'interventions': [{'name': 'filgrastim', 'type': 'BIOLOGICAL'}, {'name': 'cisplatin', 'type': 'DRUG'}, {'name': 'ifosfamide', 'type': 'DRUG'}, {'name': 'paclitaxel', 'type': 'DRUG'}]}, 'contactsLocationsModule': {'locations': [{'zip': '10021', 'city': 'New York', 'state': 'New York', 'country': 'United States', 'facility': 'Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center', 'geoPoint': {'lat': 40.71427, 'lon': -74.00597}}], 'overallOfficials': [{'name': 'Robert J.
