Delayed cord clamping below the perineum is an accepted clinical practice in obstetrics and gynecology; however, delayed cord clamping above the perineum has not yet been studied in preterm infants. Delayed cord clamping above the perineum will provide the benefit of immediate skin-to-skin contact between the mother and her newborn.\n\nPatients will have delayed cord clamping performed for 60-75 seconds either below the maternal perineum or while the infant is placed on the mother's abdomen. At approximately 24 hours after delivery (at the time of infant heel stick for routine, state-mandated screening tests), a small additional amount of blood will be collected to evaluate newborn hematocrit."}, 'eligibilityModule': {'sex': 'FEMALE', 'stdAges': ['ADULT', 'OLDER_ADULT'], 'minimumAge': '18 Years', 'healthyVolunteers': False, 'eligibilityCriteria': 'Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Singleton intrauterine pregnancies at least 30 weeks gestation but less than 37 weeks gestation\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Acute febrile illnesses or chronic medical problems such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, renal disease, medically-managed seizure disorders\n* Pregnancy-related complications such as pre-eclampsia, intrauterine growth restriction, chromosomal/anatomical abnormalities, and placental abruption\n* Infants who are not anticipated to undergo spontaneous vaginal delivery'}, 'identificationModule': {'nctId': 'NCT02659605', 'acronym': 'CLAMP', 'briefTitle': "Cord Clamping Level Above or Below Mother's Perineum", 'organization': {'class': 'OTHER', 'fullName': 'The University of Texas Health Science Center, Houston'}, 'officialTitle': "Cord Clamping Level Above or Below Mother's Perineum", 'orgStudyIdInfo': {'id': 'HSC-MS-11-0633'}}, 'armsInterventionsModule': {'armGroups': [{'type': 'EXPERIMENTAL', 'label': 'Delayed cord clamping above the perineum', 'interventionNames': ['Procedure: Delayed cord clamping above the perineum']}, {'type': 'ACTIVE_COMPARATOR', 'label': 'Delayed cord clamping below the perineum', 'interventionNames': ['Procedure: Delayed cord clamping below the perineum']}], 'interventions': [{'name': 'Delayed cord clamping above the perineum', 'type': 'PROCEDURE', 'description': "After delivery, the infant will be placed on the mother's abdomen and the cord will be clamped 30-45 seconds after delivery of the infant.", 'armGroupLabels': ['Delayed cord clamping above the perineum']}, {'name': 'Delayed cord clamping below the perineum', 'type': 'PROCEDURE', 'description': 'The infant will be held below the perineum, and the cord clamped and cut 60-75 seconds after delivery of the infant.', 'armGroupLabels': ['Delayed cord clamping below the perineum']}]}, 'contactsLocationsModule': {'locations': [{'zip': '77030', 'city': 'Houston', 'state': 'Texas', 'country': 'United States', 'facility': "Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital", 'geoPoint': {'lat': 29.76328, 'lon': -95.36327}}], 'overallOfficials': [{'name': 'Pamela Berens, MD', 'role': 'PRINCIPAL_INVESTIGATOR', 'affiliation': 'The University of Texas Health Science Center, Houston'}]}, 'ipdSharingStatementModule': {'ipdSharing': 'NO'}, 'sponsorCollaboratorsModule': {'leadSponsor': {'name': 'The University of Texas Health Science Center, Houston', 'class': 'OTHER'}, 'responsibleParty': {'type': 'PRINCIPAL_INVESTIGATOR', 'investigatorTitle': 'Professor', 'investigatorFullName': 'Pamela Berens', 'investigatorAffiliation': 'The University of Texas Health Science Center, Houston'}}}}
