Inclusion Criteria:
* acute ischemic stroke or TIA less than 2 weeks before enrollment
* ability to understand study instructions both verbal and written
* ability to handle handheld ECG
Exclusion Criteria:
* known atrial fibrillation
* hemorrhagic stroke at time of enrollment
* limited compliance
* pacemaker
