Inclusion Criteria:
* Elective Colonic or rectal resection.
Exclusion Criteria:
* Contraindication to cardiopulmonary exercise testing: unstable cardiac disease, lower limb dysfunction, inability to perform CPET
* Inability to give informed consent
* Emergency surgery
* During CPET: Ischemic ECG or inability to reach AT
* Allergy to Beetroot
