* preoperative diagnosis of adenocarcinoma of the distal esophagus and cardia
* preoperative from local to locally advanced disease
* absence of neoadjuvant therapy
Exclusion Criteria:
* neoadjuvant therapy
* metastatic disease
* unfit for surgery
