* requiring Mechanical ventilation through an endotracheal tube with infusion of sedative or analgesic agent for comfort
* requiring vasoactive drug via central venous catheter for the treatment of shock
Exclusion Criteria:
* patients receiving Dexmedetomidine as sedative
