Eligibility Criteria:
Inclusion Criteria:
1. Must be systemically healthy;
2. Must be at least twenty teeth in the mouth;
3. Clinical diagnosis of gingivitis;
4. Must be the probing pocket depth (PPD)≤3 mm in all four quadrants.
Exclusion Criteria:
* the use of anti-inflammatory,
* antimicrobial and hormone therapy within the preceding 6 months,
* having psychiatric disorders,
* a systemic disease,
* smoking cigarettes and
* for the control group breastfeeding, pregnancy and menstrual periods.
