* invasive mechanically ventilated critically ill patient with expected intensive care unit stay \> 3 days
* postoperative patient
* ≥ 18 years old
* American Society of Anesthesiology (ASA) classification ≥ III
Exclusion Criteria:
* moribund patient
* non-curative care (comfort care)
