* Histologically/cytologically proven stage III/IVM0 hypopharyngeal or base of tongue cancer
* One or more evaluable or measurable lesion
* No prior chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery
* ECOG 0-2
Exclusion Criteria:
* Distant metastasis
* Other malignancy
