-diagnosis of borderline personality disorder (BPD)
Exclusion Criteria:
* diagnosed psychological conditions that would be better addressed by alternative treatments
* previously received more than 5 sessions of cognitive behavioral therapy in the past 5 years
* concurrent psychotherapy
* medication instability
