* patients scheduled for a thoracotomy,
Exclusion Criteria:
* age \>70 years
* BMI \> 30
* preoperative Hb \< 10 mg/dL
* preexistent chronic pain
* neurologic disease
* chronic assumption of alcohol
* treatment with analgesics, anxiolytics, sedatives, antidepressants, or calcium channel inhibitors
