* Sputum-confirmed pulmonary tuberculosis
* Resident of Zomba or Blantyre Districts, Malawi
* Willing to take tuberculosis chemotherapy as recommended by the National Tuberculosis Control Programme
Exclusion Criteria:
* Prior treatment for tuberculosis
