* DCIS or infiltrating ductal carcinoma of the breast \<= 3cm
* margins clear by at least 2 mm
* age \>=45 years
Exclusion Criteria:
* invasive lobular carcinoma
* multicentric disease
* nodal metastases
* breast implants
* pregnancy
* connective tissue disease
