* any patient between the ages of 16-75 who is scheduled to undergo routine nasal surgery.
Exclusion Criteria:
* allergy to lidocaine,
* recent MI,
* recent stroke,
* uncontrolled hypertension,
* arrhythmias,
* congestive heart failure.
