* Patients with diabetic retinopathy that needs laser photocoagulation for the first time
Exclusion Criteria:
* Younger than 17
* Signs and symptoms of liver dysfunction or abnormal liver function tests
* Gastrointestinal diseases
* Pregnant women
* Edema
* Pre-existing cardiac insufficiency
